Make a Virtual Naval Hospital CD-ROM

You may download the public domain US Government medical textbooks linked to on this site for the purpose of creating a CD-ROM to take on deployment for when you do not have connectivity to the Internet. Note: this will require a high speed Internet connection and several hours of time. Please note: you should do this before an upcoming deployment, giving yourself a time cushion - at least a week - in case you encounter technical problems. The result should leave you with most of these military medical textbooks in one folder on your computer for you to move where ever you wish - CD-ROM, DVD-ROM, USB memory stick, PDA, etc. There are two methods for doing this:

1. Manual Method - Click on each link above that is identified as being a PDF or DOC file. This will allow you to quickly and easily obtain a copy of the 71% of textbooks that are available as single PDF or DOC files.

2. Automated Method - This will allow you to obtain a copy of all of the textbooks that are available as PDF, DOC and HTML files. This method is neither quick nor easy. Begin by obtaining an Offline Browser and learn about Offline Browsing. Instructions for making a Virtual Naval Hospital CD-ROM through this automated method are available here.

About Virtual Naval Hospital

After 9 years of highly regarded service to 9 million users, on January 1, 2006, the US Navy ended its funding of the Virtual Naval Hospital digital library.

Much of Virtual Naval Hospital's content remains available online, and as a service to its many patrons it continues to point to the original sources of the textbooks that it contained so that it may continue its mission of delivering expert medical information to providers and patients at the point-of-care in order to help providers take better care of their patients and help patients live healthier lives.
